Obligation Energy label C: Follow these steps in 2023

energy label c

Since January 1, 2023, the energy label C obligation applies. Do you have an office building and no energy label or not yet energy label A, B, or C? Then it is high time to take steps. You can read them in this article.

41% of the office owners in the Netherlands should have made it more sustainable before 1 January 2023. From this date, it is already mandatory for your building to minimally energy label C. The obligation of this energy label means that your office building is allowed annually an energy consumption of a maximum of 225 kWh per m² annually to have.

Energy label C as an intermediate step

The best energy label is A ++, and the worst label is G. No less than 41% of the offices in the Netherlands have no energy label and are therefore not yet energy efficient. This also includes 275 government buildings that do not yet meet the obligation. (Source: nos.nl) 11% even have energy label D or worse. (Source: RVO.nl). Municipalities must play a crucial role in this standard and help companies with the awareness of sustainability. Energy label C is an intermediate step for most municipalities. The aim is label A, this is the goal to work towards in the coming years. The municipality will therefore send letters to offices in its area to inform them when there will be a check. You can read it here exactly here.

Too late with more sustainable, what now?!

The most important thing, for now, is to show that you are working on making it more sustainable. This is important to do before you get that letter from the municipality on the mat. By taking the following steps you can still achieve energy label C this year.

1. Check your energy label

Check which energy label your office building has now. You can do this via EP online. Do you have labels A, B, or C? Then you don’t have to do anything. With energy labels D to G, you have to get started. Do you not yet have an energy label at all? Then you will probably have to make it more sustainable than just replacing your current lighting with LED.

2. Switch to LED lighting = at least 50% energy saving

As a supplier and partner in sustainable LED lighting, we would like to be of service to you. Our LED solutions are used in public spaces, greenhouse horticulture, and utility. Many schools, shops, and sports clubs are already benefiting from the benefits of our lighting. A large number of buildings and offices are also equipped with our LED. For example, AVROTROS chose to replace the current conventional lighting with Saled LED lighting.

By switching to LED lighting you quickly meet the obligation of energy label C. In addition, you benefit from at least 50% savings per year on the energy bill. A nice and important side effect in times when energy prices are still so high. In general, LED tubes, panels, ceilings, and downlighters are the best solution for office buildings. In addition to 50% energy saving, these lamps also provide 50% fewer CO² emissions.
